Backpacking 101 is an introduction course to, surprise, backpacking! The aim of this workshop is to give information, basic skills, and confidence to those who are not typically targeted by the outdoor industry, namely black and people of color, queers, transgender/gender non-conforming folks, and female identified persons. We will talk about how to prepare for your first trip, gear, challenges, and resources. Let's change the face of the outdoors together!
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Ben is a thirty-something queer who got into backpacking about 7 years ago when a friend took him on a trip to the Grand Canyon. That one trip opened up a whole new avenue of enjoyment and possibilities. Since then he has been an avid backpacker and hiker who hopes to use his knowledge and skills to help others access the outdoors. He has planned multiple trips, a few over 100 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail, and hopes to continue getting outside for years to come.
