Trigger Point & Myofascial Release

Techniques that utilize deep-tissue/deep-muscle massage are administered to affect the sub-layer of musculature and fascia. These techniques require advanced training and a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology.

The muscles must be relaxed in order to effectively perform deep-tissue massage, otherwise tight surface muscles prevent the practitioner from reaching deeper musculature.

It helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation and reduces inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis and tendinitis.

Perfect for:

Chronic pain and discomfort, carpal tunnel, plantar fasciitis, TMJ dysfunction

Prenatal & Postnatal

A pregnant person goes through an amazing amount of physical changes in only 9 months and beyond.  And with each shifting phase comes natural aches and pains.  Prenatal massage can reduce discomforts such as low back pain, edema, carpal tunnel, and body pain that prevents restful sleep. During this time, massage can enhance physiological and emotional well-being of both parent and baby.

In the postpartum period, specialized techniques rebalance structure, physiology, and emotions of the new parent and may help them to bond with and care for their infant. Transgender and non-binary pregnant folx are more than welcome to receive here.

Perfect for:

Sleeping discomfort, back pain from chest feeding, #buninoven

Acupressure & Energy Work

An ancient healing art that uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body's natural self-healing abilities.

When these points are pressed and stimulated, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body's life force (sometimes known as qi or chi) to aid healing.

Acupuncture uses the same points and meridian system, but acupuncture employs needles, while acupressure uses the gentle, but firm pressure of hands.

Perfect for:

Getting grounded, getting un-stuck, needing gentle touch

Shiatsu & Thai Massage

Traditionally, these modalities are practiced on a padded mat on the floor with the client fully clothed in stretchable fabrics.  This format opens up much more opportunity for stretching, footwork, and the feelings of groundedness by literally being pressed into the floor.  Without using oil, practitioner applies pressure with the finger, thumb, palm, elbow, or knee to specific zones on the skin located along the energy meridians. The treatment brings about a sense of relaxation while stimulating blood and lymphatic flow.

Developed in Japan, Shiatsu is a finger-pressure technique utilizing traditional acupuncture points. Similar to acupressure, shiatsu concentrates on unblocking the flow of life energy and restoring balance in the meridians and organs in order to promote self-healing.

Thai massage is similar in many ways, but sets itself apart by utilizing a different meridian system and focusing more on stretching and releasing joints.

Perfect for:

Deep pressure, wanting to keep clothes on

Cupping Therapy

Cupping is an ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine practice that utilizes the power of vacuum pressure to bring blood to the surface of the skin in order to alleviate blood/energy stagnation.  We use silicone cups that are more flexible for sliding on the body, and hand pump plastic cups that are effective for a stationary application. Although the marks can look like a painful bruise, the site is not painful to touch.

Perfect for:

Stubborn knots, deep tension, stagnant energy

Gua Sha is a natural therapy that utilizes a tool to scrape the skin in order to improve circulation, alleviate chronic pain, and move stagnant blood/energy. At Bayan Roots, we utilize the traditional ceramic spoon and a more gradual and subtle approach that does not intentionally leave marks.

Perfect for:

Stubborn knots, feelings of stuck tissue and energy
